How to Make Your Workouts Count

Working out has many benefits for the body. It can help you stay energized, lose weight, and build strength. While working out does plenty on its own, there are steps you can take to really make the most of your workouts.

Eat the Right Fuel

Your body needs energy for a workout, so make sure you give it the proper fuel. In order to get the most out of your workout, it’s recommended that you start fueling up two hours beforehand. You want to eat foods that will digest quickly and give you plenty of energy. These foods include whole grains, fruits, vegetables, and low-fat/fat-free dairy. Try to avoid saturated fats and certain proteins. These can slow your digestion and divert oxygen and blood away from your muscles. If you don’t have as much time before your workout, try some quick snacks to give you energy. A piece of fruit is always a great option.

Stay Hydrated

Water has a multitude of benefits for the body and it can be especially beneficial during exercise. If you are fully hydrated, your muscles function better and are less likely to fatigue. Hydration also improves your blood flow and circulation. This can help to reduce stress on the heart during exercise. In order to reap the benefits of hydration, you need to be actively hydrating before, during, and after your workout. You can even look into other ways of hydrating, including hydrogen-infused water. Hydrogen-infused water has many health benefits. Some studies have shown it to be an antioxidant and it has also been shown to reduce inflammation. This is very helpful while working out.

Warm Up Properly

Nothing sours a workout like a cramp or a pulled muscle. Because of this, it’s essential that you take some time to warm up. When you warm up, you prepare your body for exercise. You wouldn’t want to start a run at a full sprint. You start off walking or lightly jogging. Warming up allows your body to steadily increase blood flow and heart rate so you can safely perform your workout. A warm up also acts as a mental transition. While doing a quick warm up, you can release any stresses or worries about the day and focus your mind.
When it comes to your health, you want to make sure you’re putting in all your effort. Properly fuel and hydrate your body and don’t skip on your warm up. Taking these steps will help you to really make your workouts count.
